Aldi plans to open 40 new stores across the UK in 2026

The store openings come as Aldi prepares to invest more than £370 million.

This expansion will create full-time and part-time roles, including store assistants, cleaners, and store managers, with salaries up to £69,000 available.

From April 1, 2026, store assistants will earn £13.50 per hour nationally and £14.88 within the M25.

Aldi plans to open around 40 new stores across the UK in 2026

These rates will rise to £14.47 and £15.20 respectively based on length of service.

This forms part of a £42 million investment in colleague pay in 2026 alone.

Aldi remains the only major retailer to offer paid breaks to all colleagues – a benefit worth approximately £1,500 per year to the average store colleague.

Those interested in applying for the new positions at Aldi can visit the supermarket’s recruitment website.

Locations for the planned new stores have not yet been confirmed by Aldi.

Aldi ranked among supermarkets in Which? survey

The news comes as Aldi was ranked along with other supermarkets in February.

Marks and Spencer (M&S) is the nation’s favourite supermarket despite customers saying its “higher prices” make it a destination for treats rather than a weekly shop, according to the Which? customer satisfaction survey.

Aldi was the only supermarket to receive the “Recommended Provider” label for in-store shopping, achieving the highest rating for value for money – four out of five stars – along with Lidl.

Shoppers suggested they were willing to overlook slightly weaker scores for Aldi’s store appearance, customer service and grocery quality in exchange for consistently low prices.
