The West Oxfordshire Business Breakfast took place at the Hexagon Business Centre in Witney on October 1, bringing together political leaders, business owners, and industry voices to discuss development opportunities and challenges in the region.
Duncan Enright, deputy leader of West Oxfordshire District Council, opened the event by emphasising the importance of economic development and community engagement.
He also referenced the upcoming transition to a single unitary authority in April 2028, which will combine West Oxfordshire and Cherwell under the new North Oxfordshire Council.
Charlie Maynard, MP, spoke about his motivations for entering politics and highlighted key challenges facing businesses in the area.
Mr Maynard said: “Our regulators are not looking after us or protecting us.”
He identified business rates, slow economic growth, and high energy costs as major barriers.
Mr Maynard also called for greater investment in rail infrastructure.
He added he believes in ‘keeping power with the community’.
The meeting also featured talks on cyber security, workplace wellbeing, and the value of heritage industries.
Attendee Sinead Comerford said: “Altogether a very informative meeting and always great to hear directly from our local Politicians and what the plan and strategy is for the place we proudly live in.”
