Deddington Farmers’ Market, held in the Market Square on the fourth Saturday of each month, has grown to become the largest monthly market in Oxfordshire, regularly attracting more than 2,000 visitors and hosting around 40 stalls.
Tei Willox, chair of Deddington Farmers’ Market, said: “The market is a much-cherished part of Deddington life.
“Everyone involved over the 25-year history has added something that has helped make the market the success it is today.
“If it were a marriage it would be a silver one, symbolising the enduring strength and beauty of a long-lasting union, which fits.”
The market was relaunched in 2001 by the late Charles Newey in response to the foot and mouth crisis, which devastated the farming community.
Since then, it has earned numerous awards, including Oxfordshire Farmers’ Market of the Year for six consecutive years and Farmers’ Market of the Year 2025 from LuxLife.
Almost all stallholders are based within 30 miles of Deddington, and new producers undergo a careful selection process, including taste testing.
The market offers a wide range of goods, from meat and vegetables to cakes, beer, and international cuisine.
Run entirely by volunteers, the market operates as a community interest company.
A large portion of its profits is donated annually to parish groups and projects in Deddington, with more than £60,000 given to date.
Beneficiaries include the village nursery, school, library, and local charities.
