Cotswolds pub firm in liquidation but riverside inn stays open

Cotswold Pub Partnership Limited entered insolvent liquidation in April 2025 after a formal resolution to wind up the business.

It is understood that this liquidation refers to an umbrella event management company which affected events being held at the pub, rather than the watering hole itself.

A notice published publicly in The Gazette, an official record covering UK businesses, states that this occurred on Wednesday, April 9.

This marked the start of an insolvency process in which liquidators are appointed to deal with the company’s affairs.

In the same notice, the company’s registered office address is given as Bradwell Village, Burford.

The principal trading address recorded for the company is The Fox in Great Barrington, in Burford.

This riverside inn can be found on the banks of the River Windrush and is described as an “award?winning gastro pub with rooms”.

Companies House records show that Cotswold Pub Partnership Limited, registered under company number 13901866, was incorporated relatively recently on February 8, 2022, before later moving into liquidation.

Those records state that the company’s status is now “liquidation”, reflecting the fact that it is being wound up and is no longer carrying on business in its own right as a trading company.

The firm’s activities are recorded under standard industrial classification codes covering hotels and similar accommodation, licensed restaurants, and public houses and bars.

The Gazette notice contains a formal warning about the rules on the use of a prohibited company or trading name under section 216 of the Insolvency Act 1986.

This can apply when a company has gone into insolvent liquidation and its former directors are involved with a successor business.

The warning specifically refers to the trading names The Fox, The Fox at Barrington, Fox at Barrington and The Fox Inn, indicating that these names fall within the scope of the section 216 restrictions following the liquidation of the company.

Further notices published in The Gazette, together with specialist insolvency listings, show that the case is being dealt with as a creditors’ voluntary liquidation.

Insolvency practitioners have been appointed as liquidators to wind up Cotswold Pub Partnership Limited, as per these notices.

Despite the collapse of the operating company, The Fox at Barrington itself has remained open as a trading pub and continues to operate.

The pub’s website lists food service seven days a week and offers online booking for both tables in the restaurant and overnight stays in the pub’s rooms.

Online travel and hotel platforms are also advertising current?year room reservations at The Fox at Barrington, with availability shown for 2026 dates.

Those sites include recent guest reviews and updated pricing information for this year, while the pub’s social media pages also remain active.

The current owners of the pub have declined to issue a comment.
