Brendan Whitworth Named CEO of Equinox, Marc Mastronardi, President, Will Leave

Equinox, which operates 118 clubs across the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom, has appointed Brendan Whitworth chief executive officer. He will also serve as a director of the Equinox board. Harvey Spevak, who has led Equinox since 1999, will serve as chairman.

Marc Mastronardi, who has been president since August 2024, will be leaving the company at the end of the year, WWD has learned.

Most recently, Whitworth was CEO of Anheuser-Busch, where he led all aspects of the company’s long-term strategy and growth. As a lifelong fitness enthusiast and former U.S. Marine Corps officer, Whitworth looks to combine his passion for wellness and performance with his track record and expertise fueling the growth of the category-leading consumer-centered businesses.

“Equinox is an extraordinary brand and business that has truly defined high-performance living for more than three decades, and I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the company into its next chapter of growth,” said Whitworth. “People embrace Equinox in their daily lives and routines because of how it makes them feel and what it helps them achieve, and I take seriously the responsibility of upholding that standard of excellence and earning our members’ loyalty day in and day out. I look forward to working with the team, Harvey and the board as we invest in providing more experiences people love and further raise the bar in the world of health, wellness and performance.”

Prior to joining Equinox in 2024, Mastronardi held a broad range of leadership posts at Macy’s Inc., where his most recent post was executive vice president and chief stores officer, overseeing over 500 store locations and 75,000 employees across the U.S. and other countries. His previous roles at Macy’s included senior vice president, customer experience and store operations, and executive vice president of business development innovation. That involved jump-starting multiple initiatives in creating and expanding new business concepts, leased partnerships, diverse owner-led businesses and the restaurant organization within Macy’s nationwide.
