The firm is removing an exemption for vulnerable people on the company’s register to its hosepipe ban from 9 October to “protect water supplies and the environment”. An exemption remains for health and safety reasons and animal welfare.
Thames Water have issued an update regarding their current hosepipe ban exemptions.
A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We’ll continue to closely monitor rainfall and water levels across the region.
“Although recent rainfall has brought some improvement, September’s rainfall was only 58% of the long-term average and further sustained rainfall is needed before water resources can recover sufficiently.
“We will keep the need for restrictions under regular review and update customers if these change.

“We thank our customers for continuing to use water carefully. Every reduction in water use helps protect supplies for our customers, communities and the environment.”
Some Thames Water customers have exemptions.
The restrictions do not apply to wastewater-only customers, people with severe mobility difficulties, and some customers on the company’s Priority Services Register, including those with serious illnesses or who rely on medical equipment.
Exemptions also cover water use for health and safety reasons, animal welfare, food production and some commercial activities.
Customers can continue using approved drip irrigation systems, while certain boats, pools, ponds and newly planted trees, hedges and lawns can also be watered or maintained under specific condition
