Closing down sale at Didcot TG Jones as final day announced

The branch of TG Jones, formerly WH Smith, in Broadway, Didcot, is part of the company’s massive restructuring which will see its High Street stores drastically cut back.

The Didcot shop is just one of 150 TG Jones stores set to close in the plan, which could result in the loss of hundreds of jobs.

A closing down sale has now begun at the shop, set to continue until its final day trading on January 9, 2027.

A spokesperson for TG Jones said: “As we work to secure the long-term future of TG Jones, we have confirmed that our Didcot shop will close.

“We know this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers, and the local community.

“Our focus now is on supporting those affected and continuing to serve customers throughout the closure period.

“We would like to thank all of our colleagues for their commitment and the contribution they have made to TG Jones.”

The Post Office premises which operates from the TG Jones store will also be lost with the closure, but Post Office previously said that interest has already been expressed for a replacement store to minimise disruption to customers.

After being bought by Modella in June last year in a rescue deal that saved the historic stationery brand from collapse, all 450 stores WH Smith stores were rebranded TG Jones.

The only shops to continue bearing the WH Smith brand are those in airports and train stations.

A major restructuring plan was approved by the High Court in July, and some 19 stores have shut in September.
