Rick Gannon, known for his appearance on Channel 5’s Rich House, Poor House, visited the popular pub, featured in Clarkson’s Farm, for his 26th wedding anniversary in July.
He took to social media, sharing the £144.45 cost of the meal – not including a 12.5 per cent service charge.
The family, including his wife Lorraine, son Bnn and daughter Charlotte, ordered two starter sharing plates, four roast dinners, three Eton mess desserts, three glasses of wine, two beers and soft drinks, and one £25 plate to take home as memorabilia.
While he explained that he doesn’t “mind paying for such good service” because of the “brilliant staff and the amazing food”, that didn’t stop reports of his alleged unhappiness.
Taking to X, he addressed the former Top Gear and The Grand Tour host pub owner himself in a follow-up.
He said: “I have to say that despite all of the national papers yesterday saying I wasn’t happy and I was totally gobsmacked with the bill, it is not true.
“Let me just put this into context. I don’t mind paying for good food.”

He went on to praise both the food and staff at the pub.
“Was it good food? It was excellent. The staff were as friendly as friendly could be,” he said.
“From the minute we walked in our waitress was really attentive, the food was really tasty.”
While he noted the main course “could have been a little bit hotter”, he stressed that was only a matter of personal preference.
Mr Gannon said his original video was intended simply to share the cost of the meal with followers.
“I did a social media video about how much it costs us because that’s what I do, I share content,” he said.
Seeking to clear up any misunderstanding, he added: “I just want to say to Jeremy, I know you’re probably never going to see this video, or any of the staff that saw us on the day.
“I want to say that we had a lovely time, we will absolutely recommend you moving forwards and I wasn’t shocked with the bill, that’s been misquoted and generally misreported.”
Mr Gannon ended his message by giving the pub the thumbs up and joking that he hoped his family would be welcome back in future.
He added: “I don’t want him to think that I’ve been going somewhere just to start moaning and whinging. I’m not about that and I enjoyed it.
“Hopefully we will come back if we’re allowed.”
