Oxfordshire County Council is holding an informal consultation on parking restrictions in Wallingford town centre, following requests for changes since it took over parking enforcement from police in 2021.
A residents’ parking scheme was introduced in Castle Street and Reading Road in summer 2023, along with minor changes to yellow lines on Croft Road and St Johns Road.
A spokesman for Oxfordshire County Council said: “It has now been agreed that the best way forward is to consult with residents at this preliminary stage, before any decision is made to advertise any formal changes to on-street parking restrictions.
“This provides an opportunity to discuss parking within the context of wider local transport issues with the whole town centre community.”
Oxfordshire County Council is also working with South Oxfordshire District Council to explore possible changes to off-street car parks, though this may be affected by the formation of the new Ridgeway Unitary Authority in April 2028.
Residents are invited to respond to the consultation by 5pm on Friday, October 2, 2026.
A spokesman for Oxfordshire County Council said: “As your views and opinions matter, your response should be completed and returned by 5pm on Friday 02nd October 2026.
“In discussion with the local County Councillor & consultative forum, it is anticipated that the feedback from the consultation will be reviewed after it closes, and if there is a consensus for parking measures to be taken forward, these will be subject to further ‘formal’ consultation with residents later in this financial year.”
