The former Prime Minister was spotted drinking Hawkstone stout while filming at Clarkson’s pub, The Farmer’s Dog, on Friday, September 4.
The ex-Witney MP, who lives in Chipping Norton, learned about the incident, which took place at the old Top Gear presenter’s Chadlington farm in Oxfordshire.
Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, Mr Cameron said: “It is really shocking as there is quite a lot of that crime going on at the moment.
“It sounds as he said very old-fashioned sheep rustling, but it is happening and it is a really serious issue in the countryside.
“We need the police to take it seriously.”
Thames Valley Police has confirmed that an investigation is under way following the theft, which is believed to have occurred over a 10-day period.

A police spokesman said: “Thames Valley Police is investigating the theft of a number of sheep from a farm in Chadlington.
“The theft has occurred at some point over the last ten days and was unwitnessed.
“The theft was reported to the force on Wednesday.
“No arrests have been made.
“We would ask anybody who has information that may assist this investigation to contact Thames Valley Police on 101, quoting reference 43260457181.
“Alternatively for 100% anonymity, information can be provided via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
The former The Grand Tour presenter estimated that the stolen sheep were worth more than £2,000 and raised concerns that more may be missing from other areas of the farm.
In an interview with The Sun, he praised the response from Thames Valley Police, saying they had been “very good” in handling the matter.
Mr Clarkson issued a stark warning to the thieves. He said: “It’s a farm. We’re armed. Just so they know.”
He added: “It pisses me off. Honestly, it just pisses me off.”
He believes the theft occurred either at night or on a day when filming for Prime Video’s Clarkson’s Farm was not taking place.
Mr Clarkson said the size of the property made it difficult to prevent such incidents, describing the farm as “1,000 acres” where “anyone could be anywhere and you wouldn’t know.”
The theft comes during a challenging year for Mr Clarkson, who earlier revealed a diagnosis of “aggressive” prostate cancer during an episode of Clarkson’s Farm.
However, he has since confirmed he is in remission following a clear PSA test in April.
He recently appeared at the premiere of the latest series of The Grand Tour, which will introduce new presenters Francis Bourgeois, Thomas Holland, and James Englesman.
They will replace Mr Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond, who have fronted the show since its launch.
