\n New research has discovered the City of Dreaming Spires is not just an historic place bursting with academics, it also ranks among the craft beer capitals of the country.\n<\/p>\n
\n A study from property company Sell House Fast has identified the most ‘gentrified’ areas in the country through a range of measures with one of them the number of ‘trendy businesses’.\n<\/p>\n

\n These include craft breweries, artisan bakeries and whole-food shops, and Oxford has come top of the table.\n<\/p>\n

\n The city has about 352 ‘trendy’ businesses per 100,000 people – a total of 600 food and drink outlets overall.\n<\/p>\n
\n Of these, 122 are craft breweries, the second most of anywhere in the UK, beaten only by Peterborough which boasts 240 brewing businesses.\n<\/p>\n
\n The study said the historic university city of Oxford ‘has quietly built a vibrant independent bar scene’.\n<\/p>\n
\n Organisations include the wildly popular Tap Social Movement, which works for social good by employing prison leavers in its Botley taproom, its bakeries and bars.\n<\/p>\n

\n The socially driven brewery was founded in 2017 produces an award-winning range of craft beer at its production site in North Oxford, and to date has created more than 100,000 hours of paid employment for former prisoners.\n<\/p>\n
\n A host of others add to the ranks, including the Oxford Brewery which produces small-batch beers and runs a popular taproom in Horspath, just outside the city centre.\n<\/p>\n
\n The southeast of England dominates the ranking for most craft breweries, with Reading coming in third place, with 103 of the businesses, followed by Milton Keynes and Southampton.\n<\/p>\n
