\n Red Star in Cowley Road has been fined the sum for failing to comply with their duty of care around waste management.\n<\/p>\n
\n The Chinese restaurant was handed a zero-out-of-five food hygiene rating after an inspection in April 2025.\n<\/p>\n
\n Now, the restaurant has been given a three-out-of-five rating, deemed ‘generally satisfactory’ after Oxford City Council environmental health officers visited the business in September.\n<\/p>\n
\n Previously, one key issue was the cleanliness and condition of both the facilities and building, which were deemed to require “major improvement”.\n<\/p>\n

\n This includes having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand-washing facilities and pest control\u00a0to enable good food hygiene.\n<\/p>\n
\n Also needing “major improvement” was the management of food safety, referring to having a system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat.\n<\/p>\n
\n It also includes if there is evidence that staff know about food safety, and whether the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.\n<\/p>\n
\n Now, all three areas have been deemed ‘generally satisfactory’.\n<\/p>\n
\n The fine last year was after an investigation into the business originally began due to concerns relating to the storage of waste.\n<\/p>\n
\n However, during a duty of care visit, further issues were identified, including concerns about food hygiene and the condition of the kitchen.\n<\/p>\n
