\n Google Maps in the UK will show the price of petrol and diesel when users search for local petrol stations on the app, starting on Thursday (October 8).\n<\/p>\n
\n Savings of around \u00a340 a year are estimated for a household with one car due to greater fuel price transparency, according to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero.\n<\/p>\n
\n This comes as fuel prices within the last few weeks have rocketed past 200 pence pet litre on diesel.\n<\/p>\n
\n According to the RAC, the average price has increased to 200.11p, with petrol costing around 174.89p per litre – surpassing the previous record set following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.\n<\/p>\n
\n Minister for energy consumers Polly Billington said: \u201cTackling the affordability crisis is our first responsibility and for so many families and businesses, petrol and diesel are essential goods, not luxuries.\n<\/p>\n
\n President of the AA, Edmund King, described this move as a ‘massive step forward’, which will allow many drivers to have ‘easy access’ to fuel prices.\n<\/p>\n
\n He explained: \u201cHopefully, this high-level pump-price transparency will also encourage more competitive prices from retailers. More transparent prices should reduce the extent of rampant price-matching between fuel stations that is currently seen in many areas.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThose competitive forecourts that break rank and offer lower fuel prices can be found if drivers look hard enough and will now stand out more.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
