Baker is opening a new standalone store, marking its first British store using the name for years.

It comes after it closed all 46 of its branches following its collapse into administration back in 2024.

The brand was delisted from the London stock market in 2022 after being acquired by Authentic Brands Group for approximately £210 million.

Ted Baker returns to UK high street 2 years after administration

Henry Stupp, president of lifestyle for Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and India at Authentic, told Sky News: “This opening is an important milestone for Ted Baker in its home market and a reaffirmation of the brand’s British heritage and the enduring relevance of the category where it all began.

“We’re building on the qualities that have long distinguished Ted Baker, its approach to tailoring, craftsmanship, and distinctly British point of view, while evolving the brand for today’s consumer.

“London is the natural place to begin, and we see this opening as a defining step in the brand’s next chapter.”

The brand faced significant challenges leading up to its collapse, including profit warnings, accounting errors, and the broader impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2020, Ted Baker cut hundreds of jobs and raised £100 million to shore up its finances.

Earlier this year, the company launched a boutique in Selfridges at Birmingham’s Bullring shopping centre.

Its products remain available through its online store.

Other UK fashion retailers returning to the High Street in 2026

And it is not the only retailer plotting a comeback, with Bodycare also returning to UK high streets with plans to open 17 new stores, including 15 by the end of the year.

Earlier this year, popular retail brand Karen Millen returned to the high street after a seven-year absence.

The luxury womenswear brand relaunched through a series of new concessions across the UK, with a focus on occasionwear and its signature Forever Collection.

Dan Finley, CEO of Debenhams Group, which owns Karen Millen, said: “Karen Millen is a brand with real heritage, recognition and a loyal customer base, so bringing it back to the high street is a significant moment.

“Our customers want great fashion, but they also want to experience brands in different ways, and physical retail gives us another opportunity to do that.”

The return is part of a partnership with TFG (The Foschini Group), which also owns Hobbs, Phase Eight, and Whistles.

As well as this, fashion retailer Evans also returned to the high street after six years.

The plus-size clothing brand, catering to sizes 14 to 32, closed all stores and concessions in December 2020 after its parent company, Arcadia Group, fell into administration.

The retailer initially shifted to an online-only model before being acquired by AK Retail in 2023, which also owns Yours Clothing and M&Co.

But after a 6-year hiatus, Evans returned to the UK high street.

The plus-size clothing retailer brand is now available in over 50 Yours Clothing stores across the UK and Ireland, including in Liverpool, Swansea, Watford, and Glasgow (Braehead Shopping Centre).

Dedicated Evans sections can now be found in 36 Yours Clothing stores around the UK.

UK companies that have closed or entered administration or liquidation in 2026

Despite Ted Baker’s return, it has been a difficult year for the high street, with many businesses being forced to close stores and others entering administration or liquidation.

Major high street brands LK Bennett and Claire’s have both closed all their stores, having previously fallen into administration.

UK fashion retailers Leading Labels and Quiz have also shut down all remaining stores after falling into liquidation.

Wynsors World of Shoes is shutting 17 stores across the UK, with closing down sales already underway at several affected branches.

Other retailers that have been forced to close stores this year include the likes of River Island and Poundland.

 Recommended reading:

It’s not been all bad news for the UK high street, with several major brands announcing new store openings for 2026.

These include the likes of Aldi, M&S, and Superdrug.

In the past year, brands like Topshop and Laura Ashley have also returned to physical stores, in a welcome boost to shoppers.

What is your favourite high street shop to visit?
