\n\tLONDON \u2014 Selfridges has swung back to profit on the back of growing sales, footfall and innovative concepts such as the new private members\u2019 club, 40 Duke, and a major tie-up with Disney last Christmas.<\/p>\n
\n\tAccording to accounts set to be published on Companies House in the U.K., Selfridges Retail Ltd. reported revenue growth of more than 7 percent to 830.8 million pounds in the 52-week period ended Jan. 3, 2026.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe company said revenue was the result of \u201cstrong footfall and sales growth\u201d across its four U.K. stores, reflecting a focus toward more profitable, higher margin sales. Selfridges has a flagship on London\u2019s Oxford Street, a store in Birmingham and two in Manchester.<\/p>\n
\n\tThe store said that including sales from brand partners, total revenue stood at 1.6 billion pounds.<\/p>\n
\n\tOperating profit rose 89 percent to 79.7 million pounds, reflecting \u201cmargin improvement and tight cost control\u201d throughout the year. Profit before tax was 13 million pounds, compared with a loss of 15.9 million pounds in the previous year.<\/p>\n

\n\tPost-tax profit for the period was 23.9 million pounds, up from 1.8 million pounds in 2025. The company also strengthened its financial position, ending the year with cash of 166.3 million pounds, up 22.9 million pounds on the prior year.<\/p>\n
\n\tAndr\u00e9 Maeder, chief executive officer at Selfridges Group, said: \u201cWe\u2019re very pleased to report strong results for 2025. They reflect the strength of our brand and our ability to deliver unique experiences for customers, with footfall up 7 percent across our stores.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tHe added: \u201cThis performance comes despite difficult retail and macroeconomic environments. These challenges have been made more difficult by policy choices, such as the abolition of tax-free shopping for international visitors. We are therefore hugely encouraged to see this back on the political agenda and urge the government under new Prime Minister Andy Burnham to bring back tax-free shopping, boosting high streets and unlocking growth across the whole of the U.K.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tMaeder said that despite the macro challenges, Selfridges has continued to invest in its customer experience, \u201cwhether in London, Birmingham, Manchester or online. Our strategy is to be the most imaginative shop in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
\t\t\t\t\tSelfridges and Disney launched \u201cA Most Magical Christmas\u201d with a sound and light show at Selfridges\u2019 Oxford Street location in 2025.<\/p>\n

\n\tHe said highlights of 2025 included the \u201cSummer of Sound\u201d campaign across the country; expanded beauty destinations in London and Birmingham, and the \u201cmagical\u201d Christmas partnership with Disney.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cMomentum has continued into 2026 with the success of 40 Duke, our global-first members\u2019 destination, and preparations are well underway for another world class Christmas at Selfridges,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
\n\tIn an interview with WWD earlier this year, Maeder said his strategy for Selfridges was straightforward.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cWe see ourselves as a platform for our partners, and for unexpected artists, a place where customers can discover new things, a [historic] market square that offers special products. We had more than 400 pop-ups and 650 events in our four Selfridges stores last year, the majority of which were at the Oxford Street flagship. In London we have a cinema, a members\u2019 club, beauty services, a hair salon.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe added that Selfridges also wants to be \u201cthe most imaginative shop in the world and to spark joy by connecting people to original ideas. Our \u201cDream On\u201d summer campaign is a good example. When you come into our beautiful atrium, you\u2019ll see it\u2019s filled with animals and imaginary figures. You can walk downstairs to the coffee shop and order sweets and cakes the same color as the animals.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n\tThe inflatable horses, butterflies, snails and other creatures were made by the New York artist and designer Katie Stout. They were suspended from the ceiling, and populated the windows, too.<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cThe world is tough enough right now,\u201d Maeder said. \u201cWhether you come into our store for five minutes or for three hours, whether you come to meet friends or to drink an espresso on your own, we want you to experience wonder. We are here to create something special, unforgettable, an experience that stays with you. Selfridges, more than anything else, is a place of imagination, of cultural relevance, of moments that surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n
