\n According to SewageMap.co.uk Thames Water have been discharging sewage across the county in the past few days after rainfall.\n<\/p>\n
\n One sewage discharge has travelled approximately 80 miles according to the map travelling all the way from Stewkley, above Aylesbury, to Kingston-upon-Thames in London.\n<\/p>\n
\n The sewage, which was discharged for 45 minutes on Monday morning, has fed into Hardwick Brook then into the River Thame near Aylesbury before eventually reaching the River Thames near Dorchester-on-Thames.\n<\/p>\n
\n Untreated discharges have also travelled across the Oxfordshire\/Buckinghamshire border near Thame then near Abingdon before running through Reading, Henley, Maidenhead, Slough and eventually reaching the Thames near Kingston-upon-Thames.\n<\/p>\n

\n A Thames Water spokesperson said at the time: “Storm overflows operate within Environment Agency limits and are a legally permitted part of the wastewater system.\n<\/p>\n
\n “They help prevent sewage backing up into homes during heavy rainfall, with permitted discharges diluted by rainwater.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Over the next five years, we will deliver the largest upgrade to our wastewater network in 150 years, including increased treatment capacity, fewer storm discharges and new nutrient reduction schemes.”\n<\/p>\n
\n A Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs spokesperson said: “The Government shares the public\u2019s frustration that discharges are polluting our rivers, lakes and seas.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Storm overflows should only be used in very specific circumstances, and this Government has already taken action against water companies who are failing to perform, making it a criminal offence to cover up illegal sewage spills.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Sewage discharges remain a widespread issue, with 43 per cent of the 573 bathing sites in England and Wales receiving warnings so far this year.\n<\/p>\n
