\n Invictus Fitness Centre has applied to Cherwell District Council for permission to change the use of a unit in Murdock Road to a gym.\n<\/p>\n
\n The construction of a mezzanine floor, new parking facilities, cycle storage and landscaping works are also planned.\n<\/p>\n
\n The gym operator, which opened its first site in Thame in July 2019 following a launch attended by boxing trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., describes itself as a modern fitness centre offering gym facilities, group classes and amateur boxing coaching.\n<\/p>\n
\n According to planning documents, the existing building occupies a 0.23-hectare site within Bicester’s established industrial area off Launton Road and was previously approved for light industrial use in January 2024.\n<\/p>\n
\n The proposals would see internal alterations only, including a new 488-square-metre mezzanine level providing additional gym space, a yoga studio, cardio area, weights room, sauna and changing rooms. No changes are proposed to the building’s exterior.\n<\/p>\n
\n Plans also include 35 parking spaces, five disabled bays, 10 electric vehicle charging spaces and secure cycle parking for 36 bicycles. A native tree would be planted at the front of the site to boost biodiversity.\n<\/p>\n
\n Planning consultants acting for the applicant said the building has been vacant since September 2024 and was marketed for employment use for around 18 months with limited interest from potential occupiers.\n<\/p>\n
\n They argue there is little prospect of the site being reused for industrial purposes and claim the gym could create 11 full-time jobs.\n<\/p>\n
\n A decision on the application is expected by October 9.\n<\/p>\n
